Doug Smith is the owner of Exo Roast Co. in Tucson, which not only makes great coffee but also has a mezcaleria bar aiming not only to introduce guests to the endless wonder of mezcal but to educate people on the spirit, its production, and its cultural history. His frequent research trips to Sonora have put Doug in contact with traditional bacanora and lechuguilla makers in the Rio Sonora and Rio Moctezuma valleys. Doug earned a Ph.D. in Cultural and Social Anthropology from Stanford University, conducting major investigations into agricultural history in several states in Mexico.
