Course Description
Access to government information is considered by many as essential for citizens to adequately self-govern and for improving society, career and life. This five-week online class examines the history and philosophy of people’s ability to acquire public records, documents, and data that can be helpful in buying a home, protecting your neighborhood, and holding those in government accountable. Journalism Professor David Cuillier will provide participants with the skills necessary to find and acquire public records, analyze data, and understand the forces in society that are increasing government secrecy in the United States.
Readings and Syllabus
Registered participants will receive access to an online folder that will house all readings and other class materials.
Attendance & Participation
This course will be delivered via the University of Arizona Zoom platform. The five different class sessions will be LIVE ONLINE and will be recorded. The recordings will be shared with registered students after each session to facilitate access for those who cannot make the live sessions.
